I Quit My Job, Replacing It With Passive Income!

I was able to quit my corporate job after about 5 years. Read my story to help inspire you!

This story was first published on my other social media platforms on December 30th 2022.

After investing in Real Estate for 5 ½ years…..

I QUIT!!!!

That’s right. Since I closed on my first rental property in June 2017, I am now calling it quits.

This entire time I have been building up my real estate portfolio and investing in multiple things, RV Resorts, commercial retail, small multifamily, and even ground-up development of built-to-rent multifamily.

You may have seen me being very active on Social Media over the last couple of years and I have been a guest on a lot of podcasts over this year alone. I’ve been on hundreds of individual investor calls, gone to countless virtual meetups and conferences.

With all of that going on, I have held my W-2 job where I have worked for almost 19 years!

Well, I can no longer do both. So, it is time to let one go.
Many of you may not have known that I had a W-2 job during all of this. A few people figured it out from my calendly availability since they could only schedule in the afternoon/evenings.

I would sometimes go to a meetup or schedule a call or a podcast recording during the day and use that time for my lunch break.

Well, I am excited to say that TODAY is my LAST Day!

Starting the new year in 2023 I will be UNEMPLOYED!

I will be Full-Time working in Real Estate Investing. Notice I said “working”. I will not be relaxing on a beach somewhere for the rest of my life. That is boring.

But, I will finally be free to work when and where I want. Take vacations whenever I want for as long as I want. Spend more time with my Family. My calendly will now be open for morning hours so that my evenings can be with my Family.

When I bought that first property in June 2017, I actually gave myself a goal to have the option to be able to leave my job within 5 years. I didn’t quite make it under 5 years, but I call it good enough. When I set that goal, I wasn’t necessarily planning to quit. If I was just making great cash flow but not using a lot of my time for managing it all, I had planned to keep working so that I could keep buying more. But 5 years ago I had no idea that I would be working on two different syndication teams and speaking at events and on podcasts and hosting a monthly webinar, etc. A lot can change in 5 years!

Don’t get me wrong. My employer was great. The owners of the company are actually close friends of mine, I consider them family. As well as many of my co-workers. They allowed me to start working from home about 8 years ago so that I could move to Idaho to help care for my Mother. I am extremely grateful for that opportunity.

But, as I was doing more with commercial real estate syndications, such as with Beyonder Holdings, and my other build-to-rent team with Capital Growth Investments, and trying to talk with more investors looking to change their future with us, the job kept getting in the way. So, I made the decision that I had to quit.

I am excited to see what I can do now that I am free! I feel that I now have unlimited potential. Just wait and see what will happen!

With that, I am free to share here on this blog my name. For those who have been following for some time you’ll notice that I never shared my name. That was for my own protection so that my employer would not see me posting about early retirement and fire me before I had the chance to quit.

I am happy to share with you that my name is Don Spafford. You can find me on LinkedIn and Facebook and easily connect more with me there. I will be happy to share with you more details on my steps to replacing my income and how I can help you do the same.
