As we approach the Holidays when many people will be traveling and of those traveling a large percentage will be flying to their destination. One thing that is sometimes a pain is the added cost of parking at an airport. Today I will share another option to save you money.
Traveling for family and vacation is usually a fun experience. The excitement of getting ready and the rush you get after boarding the plane getting ready to take off. You don’t care that you are squished in a tiny seat next to strangers who are hogging the arm rest and breathing heavily. You will make that sacrifice so you can get to where you are going and have fun creating memories.
You probably will be staying at a hotel, an Airbnb, or maybe staying with family. You may be renting a car and certainly paying for food and other entertainment. Hopefully you are at least being wise and using your hard-earned credit card points to cover most of those big expenses like the airplane tickets, hotel, car rental, and maybe even the entertainment. And using your cards to rack up more points when purchasing food and souvenirs. If not, be sure to review my previous post about that and the credit card tab at the top of the screen.
I have been on several vacations over my lifetime. Some short, some long. The longest was when we took our family to South America for an entire month.
We did not have any family close by or friends with a big enough vehicle to take us all with our luggage to the airport we were leaving from. So we drove to the airport and parked in the long-term parking lot at the airport.
After a long flight back, we were exhausted. We got our things and got loaded into the van and went to check out of the parking lot. Long-term parking lots are more “affordable” than short-term parking but over a month it still adds up. I was not happy to have to pay another $200+ fee to get out.
Recently as we were planning our latest trip to South America a couple years ago, which got delayed due to Covid-19, I discovered another option for parking.
Something that I had not known about before.
It was very affordable, and in a safe location where the vehicle can still be monitored.
This website shows you locations that have signed on with them that have extra parking available. Instead of letting that space go to waste, they are capitalizing on it. I think it is a brilliant business idea.
Imagine hotels and other businesses that have parking spaces that go unutilized. They have security cameras and constant traffic flowing through, possibly on-site security, so that you know you don’t need to worry. And they provide a shuttle to and from the airport.
The website is Way.com
I admit, when I first looked at it a couple of years ago, it seemed like a bargain. When I was researching it now for this post, every date I put in for locations I would use, showed it as unavailable or full.
So I’m not sure if their structure has changed or if some of their participating companies dropped out. Either way, check it out. It could be useful. Even if just for an event like a concert or conference. They have both short and long-term parking options.
Please let me know in the comments if you were able to utilize this option or if it isn’t as good as it used to be.
And of course, either way you pay for parking, so use a rewards card to earn points for it so your next trip is free.
